Bio

I am the Chief of PM&R and Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University, where I specialize in the comprehensive conservative management of spine disorders. I am a Deputy Editor of The Spine Journal, Co-Editor of the Orthopedics Knowledge Update in Spine (4th edition) and I am on the Assistant Editorial Board of the European Spine Journal. I volunteer with the American Academy of PM&R and with spine physician societies. I was Co-Chair of the North American Spine Society’s (NASS) annual meeting in 2013 and Chair of the Advanced Lumbar Spine Injection Course for several years. I currently serve on several NASS committees, and I am Secretary of the Spine Intervention Society’s Board of Directors. My research is focused on improving the safety and effectiveness of spine interventions, and on defining objective and quantifiable outcomes in spine and musculoskeletal care. This work was recognized with numerous awards including: the 2012 ISSLS Best Research Award, The Spine Journal’s 2013 Outstanding Paper Award in Medical and Interventional Science, and the AAPM&R’s 2014 President’s Citation Award.
