Dr. Hilibrand is the Joseph and Marie Field Professor of Spinal Surgery and serves as the Vice Chair of Academic Affairs and Faculty Development and Co-Chief of Spinal Surgery for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College and The Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He is also Professor of Neurological Surgery, as well as Director of Medical Education for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has authored or co-authored 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of the American Medical Association. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as the Chairman of the Communications Cabinet, and is the President of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA and his medical degree from the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. He completed his Orthopaedic training at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor and a fellowship in spine and spinal cord injury at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland under Dr. Henry H Bohlman.
